A Winter Coat

This is our first full winter back in Alaska. While most of ya’ll have had a brutal winter with the Polar Vortex, we have had the opposite. When the lower 48 was below freezing, we were in the 40s. Needless to say it was strange up here. We finally got a good snow a couple weeks ago so we are happy. The pups LOVED playing in it.

Recently we noticed that Big Carl seems to have grown a winter coat. Well I noticed and my Mother in Law noticed and kept talking about it. Last weekend my husband finally noticed it to. His hair is longer and thicker than it used to be. We haven’t changed his diet and the only thing we can think of is that its due to the colder climate. Has anyone else experienced this?

  1. WE got ALL of your Snow this winter…

WE are like Big Carl… WE get a LOT more furs in the winter… We are just starting to shed them now..

  2. Big Carl’s coat looks great. Mom says she thinks we do adjust the thickness of our coats to our environment. We all wish we had more snow too, but we won’t complain too much because we did have some.

  3. I have the best coat I have ever hard. It is so thick and my skirt is growing longer. My Lee hopes it stays that way. She was hoping it was because she changed my food and not the harsh weather since basically I am an indoor dog in the winter.
Yep I got your snow Cincinnati has had 49 inches total over the winter.
Thanks for stopping by my blog

  4. I’ve experienced it. We adopted a senior dog from a warmer climate, and he had such a thin coat – until his first winter with us!!!!

  5. I’ve heard that dogs coats will sometimes grow in thicker according to the climate. I haven’t experienced it before with my dogs, but I think it’s fascinating to hear that Big Carl’s coat grew in thicker!
