The defensive crisis at 1. FC Köln is pushing the club into action this summer, with up to five central defenders potentially leaving the squad. According to Sky, the club has identified Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh from Norwegian side Tromsø as a top priority. The 19-year-old Gambian international is reported to have already given his verbal agreement to join Köln, though transfer negotiations are ongoing amid strong interest from several European giants.
Kinteh, who joined Tromsø’s senior team in spring 2025, is under contract until December 2029. This season, he has featured in seven of ten league matches, starting five in a row before missing the recent 2-0 win over Molde. Valued at €5 million, the centre-back is one of the most valuable players in the Norwegian Eliteserien.
While Kinteh’s commitment to Köln is seen as a positive step, the club faces significant competition. The player has been linked with RB Leipzig, Manchester United, and AC Milan, which could drive up his transfer fee. Köln’s current defensive situation is critical: contracts for Dominique Heintz, Timo Hübers, and Luca Kilian expire this summer, while loanees Cenk Özkacar (Valencia) and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey (Manchester City) are set to return to their parent clubs.
