Al-Nassr were on the verge of securing the Saudi Pro League title on Tuesday, but their celebrations were put on hold after goalkeeper Bento scored a disastrous own goal in stoppage time. The mistake allowed Al-Hilal to snatch a 1-1 draw in the Riyadh derby, keeping the title race alive.
The result leaves Al-Nassr at the top of the table with 83 points, five ahead of second-placed Al-Hilal, who have a game in hand with just two rounds remaining. Bento’s error came in the final moments of added time, robbing his team of an early championship triumph.
Despite the blunder, the former Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper remains a strong candidate for Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad. He has been included in every call-up under head coach Carlo Ancelotti and was named in the preliminary 55-man roster submitted to FIFA earlier this week.
