FC Midtjylland, the Danish powerhouse featuring the South Korean duo Cho Gyu-sung and Lee Han-beom, has pulled off a stunning title race turnaround reminiscent of Manchester City’s dramatic comebacks. On April 24 (local time), Midtjylland secured a 2-1 victory over Sønderjyske in the 28th round of the 2025–2026 Danish Superliga at Sydbank Park in Haderslev.

The match started brightly for Midtjylland, with Edward Chilufya opening the scoring in the 24th minute. However, the lead was short-lived as Matthew Hope equalized for the hosts in the 40th minute following a quick counterattack. The visitors regained control in the 49th minute, when an own goal from Sønderjyske handed Midtjylland the decisive 2-1 win.

Both Cho and Lee started the game and played the full 90 minutes. Cho operated as a second striker rather than a traditional center-forward, contributing to the team’s high press with constant movement in the final third. He dropped back to the halfway line to help with recovery (three recoveries), won three ground and aerial duels, and attempted two tackles.

Lee, deployed as a right-back in a back three, provided solid defensive cover. He recorded four clearances, one recovery, one tackle, and two successful ground duels. The defender also committed three fouls and received a yellow card just before the team’s winning goal.

Both players received a Sofascore rating of 6.6.

This victory was significant for the duo. Midtjylland extended their winning streak to three matches, now sitting at 16 wins, nine draws, and three losses for 57 points. They are level on points with Aarhus, who drew 1-1 with Nordsjælland, but lead on goal difference by 14 goals, reclaiming the top spot for the first time since early November last year.

Just four games ago, Midtjylland trailed Aarhus by six points. After a 2-1 win over Aarhus in the previous round reduced the gap to two points, they have now overtaken the leaders with four matches remaining. Cho and Lee, who both joined Midtjylland in 2023, are close to winning their second Danish Superliga title in three years, after triumphing in their debut 2023–2024 season. The club also has a Danish Cup final against Copenhagen scheduled for May 15, raising the possibility of a double.

The upcoming 29th-round away match against Aarhus on April 27 is likely to be a decisive clash for the title.

The Danish Superliga features 12 teams playing 22 regular-season matches. The top six then enter the championship round, where each team plays 10 additional games to decide the champion and European qualification spots. The winner earns a spot in the Champions League second qualifying round.

Both Cho and Lee, expected to feature for South Korea in the upcoming World Cup, will conclude their season on May 18.
