The Japan Ice Hockey Federation announced on Tuesday that Yusuke Okubo has been appointed as the new head coach of the women’s national team. Okubo previously served as the head coach of the men’s U18 national team, where he led the squad in international competitions.
Joining Okubo on the coaching staff is former women’s national team standout Miyu Kubo, who will serve as an assistant coach. Kubo, a veteran of multiple world championships, brings extensive experience and leadership to the team’s rebuild. The federation expressed confidence that the duo will guide Japan’s women’s ice hockey program toward stronger performances in upcoming international events, including the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics qualifying campaign.
